State Specific Continuing Education Courses:

  • 3 hours must be in Ethics 
  • 18 hours must be on topics associated with the license type held.
  • The Colorado Long Term Care CE requirements have changed (1-1-2009), the New Requirements are:  16 hours total , 8 hrs. of general LTC which may be completed in the classroom or self-study/online. The second 8 hrs. covers the Partnership and may only be completed in the classroom.  The 2 hr. course no longer qualifies for Colorado LTC CE compliance and it will not be grandfathered for the new LTC requirement.  All resident producers offering LTC products in Colorado must complete the 16 hr. requirement beginning 1-1-09.  For a non-resident producer to  offer LTC products in Colorado the producer must meet requirements of their resident state regarding LTC and hold a Colorado non-resident license for Life or Accident & Health.
  • Annuity Training…Effective 04/01/11: Producers who hold a life insurance line of authority on 4/1/11 must complete a one-time 4 hour Annuity Training course by 10/1/11. Individuals who obtain a life insurance line of authority on or after 4/1/11 may not engage in the sale of annuities until they have completed this training. This requirement applies to resident and non-resident producers.
  • At least 18 of the required 24 CE hours required must cover the lines of insurance for which the producer is licensed.
  • All Colorado resident insurance producers licensed in P&C or personal lines of authority that may sell flood insurance are required to complete a one-time course related to NFIP that will provide at least three (3) hours of continuing education

Renewal or Compliance Date for Licensees

  • The compliance date is the same as the license renewal date.
  • The license renewal date is the last day of the birth month, biennially.

Types of Courses Accepted:

  • Independent self-study courses and classroom study.

Monitor Requirements:

  • Online & paper exams MUST BE monitored by a disinterested third party.

Continuing Education Carryover & Course Repetition

  • 12 CE credits earned during the 120 days prior to the compliance date may be carried over to the next renewal period.
  • Credit will not be given for courses taken more than once in a three year period, with the exception of statutory update courses.

Exemptions:

  • Newly licensed individuals are exempt for the first compliance period.
  • Any person licensed only for one or more of the following: Professional Bail Bondsperson, Title, Credit, Crop Hail, Health Maintenance Organization, Limited Insurance Representative/Travel Ticket and Nonprofit Hospital Surgical Medical.

Method to Certify Completion:

  • For Most States you will be able to print your certificate of completion online once you have completed your exam.
  • We usually report to the State Department of Insurance or regulatory board by the next business day.
  • It may, however, take your State DOI or regulatory board up to 30 days to report your completion results on their systems.
