Florida Insurance Continuing Education (CE) Courses

State Proctor/Monitor Requirements:

• No monitor required for Online Self-study Florida insurance continuing educationcourses.
• Paper exams MUST BE monitored by a disinterested third party.

FL Insurance Continuing Education Online Renewal Requirements:

Life and Health and/or Property and Casualty agents:

• If licensed Less than 6 years: 24 Florida insurance continuing education hours of basic or intermediate level courses every 2 years. Any person who holds a license to solicit or sell life insurance must include 3 hours of senior suitability. All P&C agents must include 1 hour of Premium Discounts for Hurricane Loss Mitigation and 3 hours of Ethics.
• If licensed 6 years or more: 20 Florida insurance continuing education hours of intermediate level courses every 2 years. Any person who holds a license to solicit or sell life insurance must include 3 hours of senior suitability. All P&C agents must include 1 hour of Premium Discounts for Hurricane Loss Mitigation and 3 hours of Ethics.
• If licensed for 25 years or more, who are also CLUs or CPCUs: Agents licensed for 25 years or more, who are also CLUs or CPCUs or who have B.S. degrees in risk management or insurance with 18 or more semester hours in upper-level insurance-related courses, must complete 12 hours of Florida insurance continuing education every 2 years.

Customer Representatives: 10 Florida insurance continuing education hours every 2 years, 3 hours of which must be in Ethics and 1 hour must be in Premium Discounts for Hurricane Loss Mitigation.

State Specific (required) Courses:

• Life and Health /General Lines (Property and Casualty) agent hours must include 3 hours Ethics.
• FL insurance continuing education courses must be approved for lines of insurance for which agent is licensed.
• Life and Health agents who also have an industrial fire and burglary license must have 24 hours in Life and Health and 4 hours in industrial fire.
• Life and Health / General Lines (Property and Casualty) combined licensees must complete 50% of hours in LH and 50% in PC.
• All Florida licensed insurance agents who currently sell or may sell flood insurance must complete a one-time 3 hour training course. (These 3 hours are not required in addition to the normal number of credit hours required for each agent.)

Florida Insurance CE License Renewal Timelines:

The compliance date is the end of birth month following the second anniversary of the first license issuance date, and then every 2 years.

For example: If a license is issued on March 11, 2008, the second anniversary would be March 11, 2010. If the birth month of the agent is in May, the compliance date is May 31, 2010.
