Michigan Insurance Continuing Education (CE) Courses

State Proctor/Monitor Requirements:

• Exams are required to be monitored by a disinterested third party for Michigan insurance continuing education.

MI Insurance Continuing Education Online Renewal Requirements:

• 24 hours every 2 years, 3 hours of which must be in Ethics.

State Specific (required) Courses:

• 21 hours can be completed for either Michigan life insurance continuing education or Property and casualty.
• 3 hours must be in Ethics.
• Flood Training Requirement: All Michigan licensed resident insurance producers who sell federal flood insurance policies must comply with the minimum Flood insurance training requirements. Those producers that hold a property line of authority selling through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) must complete an approved, one-time, 3 hour course on Flood insurance.
• Long Term Care Training Requirement: Agents selling, soliciting, or negotiating long-term care insurance must complete a course on Long Term Care insurance every 2 years.

Michigan Insurance CE License Renewal Timelines:

• The compliance date is determined by the last digit of the Social Security Number and the first letter of agent's last name. Compliance date does not change with name change.
• Agents whose last names begin with A-L renew in odd-numbered years.
• Agents whose last names begin with M-Z renew in even-numbered years.

  • Social Security Number Last Digit 3: 3/1, every 2 years
  • Social Security Number Last Digit 4: 6/1, every 2 years
  • Social Security Number Last Digit 5: 7/1, every 2 years
  • Social Security Number Last Digit 6: 8/1, every 2 years
  • Social Security Number Last Digit 7: 9/1, every 2 years
  • Social Security Number Last Digit 8: 10/1, every 2 years
  • Social Security Number Last Digit 9: 11/1, every 2 years
  • Social Security Number Last Digit 0: 12/1, every 2 years
