South Carolina Insurance Continuing Education (CE) Courses

State Proctor/Monitor Requirements:

• Exams are required to be monitored by a state approved monitor for South Carolina insurance continuing education.

SC Insurance Continuing Education Online Renewal Requirements:

• 24 hours biennially, 3 of which must be completed in Ethics for South Carolina insurance CE.
• 8 of the total 24 hours required must be courses approved for lines of insurance license held and LH/PC combined licensees must complete at least 8 hours in each line, in addition to the 3 hours of which must be in Ethics approved courses. (Once those hours have been filled, all other course hours taken in any line will apply to the total 24 hour requirement and will be considered general credit.

State Specific (required) Courses:

• 3 hours must be in Ethics.
• 8 of the 24 hours must be courses approved for lines of insurance license held.
• LH/PC combined: must complete at least 8 hours in each line.
• Long Term Care Training Requirement: An individual may not sell, solicit or negotiate long term insurance unless the individual is licensed as an insurance producer for accident and health or life. Previously licensed producers may continue to sell long term care products, but must complete a one-time training course by or before 7/1/2009 and ongoing training every 24 months thereafter. Individuals licensed after 7/1/2009 must obtain the training before beginning to sell long term insurance products. The one-time training shall be no less than 8 hours and the ongoing training shall be no less than 4 hours.
• Flood Training Requirement: All South Carolina licensed resident insurance producers who sell federal flood insurance policies must complete a one-time course relating to NFIP flood training.
