South Dakota Insurance Continuing Education (CE) Courses

State Proctor/Monitor Requirements:

• Exams are NOT required to be monitored for South Dakota insurance continuing education.

SD Insurance Continuing Education Online Renewal Requirements:

• 10 hours biennially required for South Dakota insurance CE
• 20 hours biennially for combined LH/PC license (at least 8 hours of courses must be devoted to one line).
• 4 hours biennially for Crop
• New licensees receiving a license after 9/30 of an even numbered year but before 10/01 of an odd numbered year must complete at least one half of the CE requirement.
• Farm Mutual insurer license: 10 hours biennially in P/C insurance
• Personal Lines license: 10 hours biennially in P/C insurance
• Crop and L/H or P/C: 10 hours biennially- max 2 hours in crop and 8 hours in major line

State Specific (required) Courses:

• Courses must be taken in the lines for which the license is held for SD insurance CE.
• Combined License (LH/PC) must complete at least 8 hours devoted to one line
• No more than 50% of required hours may be earned from one insurance company
• All South Dakota licensed resident insurance producers who sell federal flood insurance policies shall be required to complete a one time 3 hour requirement on flood insurance.
• LTC Partnership Training Requirement: Producers, who sell, solicit or negotiate LTC (Long Term Care) insurance in South Dakota; must complete a 8 hours training course before July 1, 2008 and a 4 hours follow-up course biennially there after.
