West Virginia Insurance Continuing Education (CE) Courses

State Proctor/Monitor Requirements:

• Exams are required to be monitored by a disinterested third party for West Virginia insurance continuing education.

WV Insurance Continuing Education Online Renewal Requirements:

• 24 hours are required biennially, 3 hours of approved ethics for West Virginia insurance CE

State Specific (required) Courses:

• 3 hours must be in Ethics approved courses.
• Effective July 1, 2009, all active producers who sell, solicit or negotiate Long Term Care insurance must complete a one-time training course of no less than eight hours prior to July 1, 2010. Any new producer licensed after July 1, 2009, must complete the one-time training prior to selling any Long Term Care products. Beginning July 1, 2010, producers are required to complete ongoing training of no less than four hours in each mandatory continuing education biennium subsequent to the biennium in which the one-time training was completed. Producers that are selling, soliciting or negotiating Long Term Care insurance on July 1, 2009, are permitted to continue such activities however the producers must complete the one-time training course prior to July 1, 2010. Long Term Care training courses will count towards the producer’s 24 hour WV insurance CE requirement.
• All West Virginia licensed resident insurance producers who sell federal flood insurance policies shall be required to complete a one time 3 hour requirement on flood insurance. An individual who attends a professional designation class, or takes a self-study course and passes the national exam will receive 24 CE credit hours.

West Virginia Insurance CE License Renewal Timelines:

• The compliance period begins 07/01 and ends 6/30 every 2 years (even numbered years). Current compliance period is 07/01/2008-6/30/2010.
