Kansas Insurance CE Requirements

License Status


Insurance Continuing Education Hours Required:

  • Life and Health Licensee: 12 CE credit hours, including 1 hour of ethics, are required every 2 year license term. (must complete 1 hour in approved ethics course, all other hours must be completed by taking courses approved only for the line of authority held by licensee)
  • Starting 1/01/2022, 18 CE credit hours, including 3 hours of ethics are required every 2 years.
  • Property and Casualty Licensee: 12 CE credit hours, including 1 hour of ethics, are required every 2 year license term. (must complete 1 hour in approved ethics course, all other hours must be completed by taking courses approved only for the line of authority held by licensee)
  • Starting 1/1/2022, 18 CE credit hours, including 3 hours of ethics are required every 2 years.
  • 4 hours biennially for title insurance.
  • 2 hours biennially for crop insurance and life licensees who sell only pre-need funeral insurance.


Continuing Education State Specific Courses:

  • L/H or P/C licensees must complete 1 hour of ethics as part of their 12 hour requirement. 
  • Starting 1/1/2022 L/H or P/C licensees must complete 3 hours of ethics as part of their new 18 hour requirement.
  • All Kansas resident insurance producers licensed in property and casualty or personal lines of authority that may sell a flood insurance policy must complete a one-time course 3 hour flood course.  These three (3) hours are not required in addition to the normal 12 hours.
  • Courses must be approved for lines of insurance for which license is held.

Continuing Education Renewal or Compliance Date for Licensees:

  • License renewal date is the agent's date of birth biennially. Licensee's born in odd numbered years report in odd years, even numbered years report even years.
  • Starting 7/01/2021, license renewal dates will change from their birthday to the last day of their birth month, in an even or odd year, depending on whether the producer was born in an even or odd year.


Types of Courses Accepted:

  • Independent self study courses or classroom.


Monitor Requirements

  • Self-study final exams MUST BE monitored by a disinterested third party. (Allowing Virtual Monitors)
  • Starting 7/01/2021, no monitor will be required for online, self-study final exams.


Reporting to Your State
  • $1.00 per credit hour is required to report to your state.
  • State Insurance completions are reported 2 times every business day. If course is completed after 2 PM PT, it will be reported the following business day.

  • CFP reports are sent on Friday at 2 PM PT to the CFP Board electronically.

  • You may also self-report your CFP completions to www.cfp.net


Carryover Hours & Course Repetition

  • No carryover hour allowed.
  • Credit will not be given for a course (including those approved to meet the ethics requirement) that is repeated within a 2 year license term.


Exemptions:

  • Individuals licensed less than two years at the time of the compliance date license.


Method to Certify Completion:

  • For Most States you will be able to print your certificate of completion online once you have completed your exam.
  • We usually report to the State Department of Insurance or regulatory board by the end of the next business day.  

  • It may, however, take your State DOI or regulatory board up to 30 days to report your completion results on their systems.
  • As an added service, we can Rapidly Mail all of your completed courses certificates the same business day (per credit order) for only $25.


Non-residents:


  • Initial LTC Requirement: A non-resident producer must  complete an eight (8) hour Kansas approved NAIC LTC course OR an 8-hour LTC course from another state  that will fulfill Kansas' requirements. 

  • On-going LTC Requirement: A 1-hour follow-up LTC course is required by the end of each renewal period; check with carrier since most require a 4-hour refresher course.
