SASKATCHEWAN Insurance CE Requirements
Continuing Education Hours
General Insurance
• Licensees are required to attain a minimum of twelve credit hours of continuing education each year.
• Licensees with at least twenty-five years of continuous general insurance experience are required to attain a minimum of eight credit hours of continuing education each year.
• Licensees who hold a recognized insurance designation are required to attain a minimum of eight credit hours of continuing education each year.
Life Insurance
Effective January 1, 2013, licensees will be required to earn a minimum of fifteen credit hours of continuing education in each annual reporting period.

Continuing Education Compliance Date
The CE Compliance date coincides with the licensees annual reporting date (day and month indicated on the license).
CE hours must be reported every second year. Council will indicate this on the renewal application.

License Renewal Date
License renewal date is the license issuance date annually (as indicated on license).

Type of courses accepted for CE Credit
Continuing Education courses can be classroom, online and/or self-study.

Course Subject Requirements
Continuing education must be directly related to knowledge relevant to giving advice about financial products or services, or the operation of financial services business. This includes programs that are structured for the specific purpose of education, but excludes activities such as programs and meetings primarily based on sales production, promotion, motivation and computer training.

Carryover Requirements.
No excess CE credit hours may be carried over to the next license term.

Course Repetition
Courses cannot be repeated in a license cycle.

Insurance CE Course Exam
Final exam is open book and does not require a monitor.

Non-Resident CE Requirements
Non-resident licensees are required to comply with the continuing education requirements in this schedule unless they can provide evidence they are complying with a continuing education requirement in their resident jurisdiction.

Requirements to Maintain Records
Licensees must file an annual report stating the continuing education courses they have attended.   Licensees must retain certificates issued by course providers for inspection by council in the event of an audit of the licensee’s record by council.  www.insurancecouncils.sk.ca

ADVOCIS (formerly CAIFA) Requirements
Continuing Education Hours
Continuing Education (CE) is mandatory for all Advocis members. Members are required to earn a minimum of 30 CE credits each calendar year. Each hour of CE credit approved by Advocis qualifies for CE credit. Any deficiency in one year must be made up by the next year in addition to the full year's requirement. As it is a membership requirement to earn CE credits, those in non-compliance will be subject to sanctions.

  • a minimum of 15 hours of structured learning activity in the form of CE programs. One CE credit equals one hour of structured learning activity.
  • Informal learning activities — a maximum of 15 hours of informal activity determined by the member as contributing to his or her ongoing professional development such as: teaching/presenting, research/writing articles, self-study, and participation on industry task forces/committees.
