Alabama Insurance CE Requirements


License Status


Insurance Continuing Education Hours Required

  • 24 CE hours (including 3 hours of ethics) required every two license renewal.

State Specific Courses

  • 3 hours must be in Ethics
  • Initial 8-hour LTC training requirement: Before selling, soliciting, or negotiating LTC insurance in Alabama, producers must complete an initial 8-hour LTC training course.
  • Ongoing 4-hour LTC training requirement: After completion of the 8-hour initial LTC training requirement, producers must complete 4 hours of approved LTC training every 24-months.

  • All Alabama licensed resident insurance producers who sell federal flood insurance policies shall be required to complete a one time 3 hour requirement on flood insurance.

Renewal or Compliance Date for Licensees

  • A Producer’s license expires on the last day of the producer’s birth month, every 2 years. Producers with even birth years renew every even year. Producers with odd birth years renew every odd year. 


CE Types of Courses Accepted

  • Independent self-study courses and classroom study/seminar.

Monitor Requirements

  • Online & paper exams MUST BE monitored by a disinterested third party.
  • The proctor must be a disinterested third party, with a minimum age of 18 years, who can be any person except for family members or individuals who have a financial interest in the success of the student taking the examination. Co-worker proctors must not be above or below in the student's line of supervision.

Reporting to Your State
  • $1.00 per credit hour is required to report to your state.
  • State Insurance completions are reported 2 times every business day. If course is completed after 2 PM PT, it will be reported the following business day.
  • CFP reports are sent on Friday at 2 PM PT to the CFP Board, electronically.
  • You may also self-report your CFP completions to www.cfp.net

Carryover Hours & Course Repetition

  • Up to 24 hours can be carried over to the next renewal period.  

  • Courses may not be taken for credit more than once per renewal period. 

Method to Certify Completion:

  • For Most States you will be able to print your certificate of completion online once you have completed your exam.
  • We usually report to the State Department of Insurance or regulatory board by the next business day.
  • It may, however, take your State DOI or regulatory board up to 30 days to report your completion results on their systems

  • As an added service, we can Rapidly Report all of your completed courses the same business day (per credit order) for only $25.

Nonresidents:

  •            Exempt
