Arkansas Insurance CE Requirements

Insurance Continuing Education Hours Required

  • Life and/or Accident & Health – 8 Hrs
  • Property/Casualty – 8 Hrs
  • Personal Lines- 8 Hrs
  • Life & Property/Casualty/Personal Lines- 10 Hrs
  • Accident & Health & Property/Casualty/Personal Lines-10 Hrs
  • Life/Accident & Health & Property/Casualty-10 Hrs
  • ***Effective on January, 1st 2011*** Insurance Producer Continuing Education will now consist of 24-Hours, including 3-hours of Ethics. 

Insurance Continuing Education State Specific Courses

  • 1 hour must included Ethics
  • Annuity Training: Any Resident or Non Resident Producer who sells an annuity product to an Arkansas resident MUST complete the Arkansas Rule 82 Annuity Training Course.  NOTE: Effective June 28, 2010 the 4-hour Annuity requirement was repealed by the AR DOI. While the course requirements are being revised by the Arkansas DOI the above 4-hour Annuity training is no longer required.
  • All Arkansas licensed resident insurance producers who sell federal flood insurance policies shall be required to complete a one time 3 hour requirement on flood insurance.

Long Term Care Training Requirements

  • *Producers licensed before 7/1/2008 in accident and health or sickness or life who sell, solicit, or Negotiate long-term care insurance must complete a one time 8-hour LTC training course on or before 7/1/2009.
  • *Producers licensed after 7/1/2008 must complete LTC training by 1/1/2009 or before selling or negotiating long term care insurance contratcs.

Insurance Continuing Education Renewal or Compliance Date for Licensees

  • License renewal date is the agent's date of birth annually.
  • ***Effective on January, 1st 2011*** The license renewal dates will change to the producer's date of birth (biennially).

Types of Courses Accepted

  • Independent self study courses or classroom. 

Insurance Continuing Education Monitor Requirements

  • Online & paper exams MUST Be monitored by a state approved proctor or disinterested 3rd party

Carryover Hours & Course Repetition

  • CE hours can be carried over from one renewal period to the next.
  • Courses can not be repeated within a 2 year period.

Insurance Continuing Education Exemptions

  • Any person who is licensed in the state of Arkansas less than one year upon renewal.
  • Any person who is at least 60 years of age, but only if licensed prior to 7/1/03.
  • Any person who has been actively licensed as an agent or broker for at least 15 consecutive years, but only if licensed prior to 7/1/03.
  • Any person holding limited lines licenses for which they do not have to take an exam.
  • Any person holding a limited or restricted license.
  • Individuals in their first full year of licensure following the year they made a change in residency or domicile to Arkansas.
  • Third-party administrators who do not solicit business.

Method to Certify Completion:

  • For Most States you will be able to print your certificate of completion online once you have completed your exam.
  • It may, however, take your State DOI or regulatory board up to 30 days to report your completion results on their systems.

  • The Licensee should submit the Certificate(s) of Completion, along with their Insurance Renewal Form, to the Arkansas Department of Insurance, prior to their renewal date.
