Hawaii Insurance CE Requirements


Insurance Continuing Education Hours Required:

  • 24 hours are required for Life/Accident & Health/Sickness & Property/Casualty agents biennially.
  • 30 hours are required for multiple lines agents biennially.

Continuing Education State Specific Courses:

  • Courses must be in line of license held.
  • All licensees must complete 3 hours of insurance Laws and Rules or Ethics
  • Producers licensed to sell insurance in multiple lines of authority (Life/Accident or Health/Sickness, and Property/Casualty) must have 4 hours relating to insurance Laws and Rules or Ethics in both P/C and L/H as part of the 30 hour CE.
  • All Hawaii licensed resident insurance producers who sell federal flood insurance policies shall be required to complete a one time 3 hour requirement on flood insurance.  


Continuing Education Renewal or Compliance Date for Licensees:

  • Producers' licenses renew on the 16th day of their birth month. Even months renew in even years, odd months renew in odd years. 


Types of Courses Accepted:

  • Independent self-study courses, classroom study, and insurance company sponsored courses.


Monitor Requirements

  • Exams MUST BE monitored by a disinterested third party. 


Reporting to Your State
  • The course will be reported within 24 hours from passing the final exam.


Carryover Hours & Course Repetition

  • Carryover hours are not allowed
  • Courses may not be taken for credit more than once in a renewal period.


Exemptions:

  • A licensee who has been licensed for less than two years at the time of the licensee's first renewal.
  • An individual holding only a limited license.
  • Nonresident agents are exempt if home state has a reciprocal agreement with Hawaii.


Method to Certify Completion:

  • For Most States you will be able to print your certificate of completion online once you have completed your exam.
  • We usually report to the State Department of Insurance or regulatory board by the next business day.
  • It may, however, take your State DOI or regulatory board up to 30 days to report your completion results on their systems.
  • As an added service, we can Rapidly Report all of your completed courses the same business day (per credit order) for only $25.


Non-residents:

            Exempt if home state has passed Producer Licensing Model Act legislation or    signed a reciprocal agreement with Hawaii.
