Mississippi Insurance CE Requirements

Insurance Continuing Education Hours Required

Life, Health & Accident Producers

  • 24 CE hours, including 3hours of ethics, are required every 2 year license term.
  • Producers whose licenses have been in effect for a license term of 18 months or less are required to complete 12 CE hours without ethics during the license term. Upon renewal, a 2 year license will be issued.

Property and Casualty Producers

  • 12 CE hours are required every 1 year license term, ending May 31, 2010
  • 24 CE hours, including 3 hours of ethics, are required every 2 year license term.
  • Producers whose licenses have been in effect for a license term of 18 months or less are required to complete 12 CE hours without ethics during the license term. Upon renewal, a 2 year license will be issued.
  • Producers who sell flood insurance must complete a one time 3 hour training class on flood insurance and the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

Continuing Education State Specific Courses

  • All Mississippi licensed resident insurance producers who sell federal flood insurance policies shall be required to complete a one time 3 hour requirement on flood insurance.

Renewal or Compliance Date for Licensees

  • 12/31 annually for L/A&H agents,
  • 5/31 annually for P/C agents and adjusters

Types of Courses Accepted

  • Independent self-study courses or classroom

Monitor Requirements

  • Exams MUST BE monitored by a disinterested third party.

Continuing Education Carryover Hours & Course Repetition

  • No excess CE credit hours may be carried over to the next renewal period.
  • Courses may not be taken for credit more than once in 3 year period.

Exemptions

  • Inactive agents
  • Agents who hold only a limited-lines license that did not require a written exam.
  • Agents holding the limited licenses of industrial fire, industrial LAH, credit life, credit A&H, vehicle physical damage or credit property.
  • Newly licensed agents are exempt for the reporting period in which the license is issued.

Method to Certify Completion:

  • You will be able to print your certificate of completion online once you have completed your exam. Certificates of completion must be submitted with renewal form for P/C and LH license renewal. The course provider reports earned credits to the CE administrator (Sircon)
  • We usually report to the State Department of Insurance or regulatory board by the next business day.
  • It may, however, take your State DOI or regulatory board up to 30 days to report your completion results on their systems.

Nonresidents:

            Exempt if producer meets home state CE requirement.
