Required Insurance Continuing Education Credit Hours


  • Life and/or Accident & Health – 24-Hours, including 3-hours of Ethics
  • Property/Casualty – 24-Hours, including 3-hours of Ethics
  • Personal Lines- 24-Hours, including 3-hours of Ethics
  • Life & Property/Casualty/Personal Lines- 24-Hours, including 3-hours of Ethics
  • Accident & Health & Property/Casualty/Personal Lines-24-Hours, including 3-hours of Ethics

New Requirement to Sell Annuities in Arkansas


NOTE: The 4-hour Annuity requirement was approved by legislation on January 1st, 2021. Requirements are in effective as of July 8th, 2021.
  • A resident or non-resident producer who engages in the sale of annuity products shall complete a one-time four (4) credit training course approved by the Department and provided by the Department-approved education provider. 

  • A producer who has completed an annuity training course approved by the Department prior to June 29th, 2021 shall, within six ( 6) months after June 29th, 2021, complete either:
(a) A new four (4) credit training course approved by the Department after January 1, 2021; or
    (b) An additional one-time one (1) credit training course approved by the Department and provided by the Department-approved education provider on appropriate sales practices, replacement and disclosure requirements under this Rule.

    Insurance Continuing Education State Specific Courses


    • All Arkansas licensed resident insurance producers who sell federal flood insurance policies shall be required to complete a one time 3 hour requirement on flood insurance.


    Long Term Care Training Requirements

    • Initial 8-hour long term care training requirement: Before selling, soliciting or negotiating LTC insurance products in Arkansas, a producer must be licensed with the 'Accident and Health or Sickness' line of authority; and have completed eight (8) hours of Arkansas approved initial LTC training.

    • Ongoing 4-hour long term care training requirement: A 4-hour follow-up long term care training course must be completed during each two-year period following the two-year period in which the person completed the initial 8-hour long term care training requirement.


    Insurance Continuing Education Renewal or Compliance Date for Licensees

    • License renewal date is the agent's date of birth annually.
    • ***Effective on January, 1st 2011*** The license renewal dates will change to the producer's date of birth (biennially).


    Types of Courses Accepted

    • Independent self study courses or classroom. 


    Insurance Continuing Education Monitor Requirements

    • Online & paper exams MUST Be monitored by a state approved proctor or disinterested 3rd party. 
    • Affidavit must be properly completed and sent in before course can be reported.


    Reporting to Your State
    • $1.00 per credit hour is required to report to your state.
          • State Insurance completions are reported 2 times every business day after receiving affidavit completed by you and your monitor.
        • If the course is completed and the affidavit is received after 2 PM PT, it will be reported the following business day.

          • CFP reports are sent on Friday at 2 PM PT to the CFP Board electronically.

          • You may also self-report your CFP completions to www.cfp.net


    Carryover Hours & Course Repetition

    • CE hours can be carried over from one renewal period to the next.
    • Courses can not be repeated within a 2 year period.


    Insurance Continuing Education Exemptions

    • Any person who is licensed in the state of Arkansas less than one year upon renewal.
    • Any person who is at least 60 years of age, but only if licensed prior to 7/1/03.
    • Any person who has been actively licensed as an agent or broker for at least 15 consecutive years, but only if licensed prior to 7/1/03.
    • Any person holding limited lines licenses for which they do not have to take an exam.
    • Any person holding a limited or restricted license.
    • Individuals in their first full year of licensure following the year they made a change in residency or domicile to Arkansas.
    • Third-party administrators who do not solicit business.


    Method to Certify Completion:

    • For Most States you will be able to print your certificate of completion online once you have completed your exam.
    • It may, however, take your State DOI or regulatory board up to 30 days to report your completion results on their systems.

    • The Licensee should submit the Certificate(s) of Completion, along with their Insurance Renewal Form, to the Arkansas Department of Insurance, prior to their renewal date.


    Nonresidents:


    • Initial LTC Requirement: Non-resident agents must complete an Arkansas 8-hour NAIC LTC course OR an 8-hour NAIC LTC course from another state.

    • On-going LTC Requirement: A 4-hour follow-up LTC training course must be completed every 24 months.
