  • An individual may not sell, solicit or negotiate LTC insurance unless the individual is licensed as an insurance producer for Life and Health insurance and completed an 8 hours one-time training course and a 4 hour follow-up training course every 24 months thereafter in order to continue to sell LTC policies.  The training requirement applies to both resident and nonresident producers.  Residents may earn CE credit if the training course was approved for CE credit.

Continuing Education State Specific Courses:

  • 3 hours must be in ethics.
  • All Maine licensed resident insurance producers who sell federal flood insurance policies shall be required to complete a one time 3 hour requirement on flood insurance.

Continuing Education Renewal or Compliance Date for Licensees:

  • Continuation date is the end of the licensee's birth month in even or odd years. Licensees born in even years will have continuation dates in even years. Licensees born in odd years will have continuation dates in odd years.

Types of Courses Accepted:

  • Independent self study courses or classroom.

Monitor Requirements:

  • Exams DO NOT require a monitor.

Carryover Hours & Course Repetition:

  • No excess CE credit hours may be carried over to the next renewal period.
  • No CE credit may be earned for repeating a course previously taken during the same renewal period.

Exemptions:

  • Individuals holding limited licenses (such as title insurance).
  • Individuals licensed less than one year at the time of the first CE compliance date are exempt for that first reporting period.

Method to Certify Completion:

  • For Most States you will be able to print your certificate of completion online once you have completed your exam.
  • We usually report to the State Department of Insurance or regulatory board by the next business day.
  • It may, however, take your State DOI or regulatory board up to 30 days to report your completion results on their systems.
  • As an added service, we can Rapidly Report all of your completed courses the same business day (per credit order) for only $25.

Nonresidents:

Satisfaction of a nonresident producer's home state's CE requirements for licensed insurance producers constitutes satisfaction of this State's continuing education requirements, if the nonresident producer's home state recognizes the satisfaction of its continuing education requirements by producers from this State on the same basis.
